Background
My thesis is titled Intercultural subjectivities of the everyday: a study of Australian school kids. My PhD was a three-year qualitative longitudinal study comprising the narratives of 24 primary school students aged 9–12 in Grade 4 to Grade 6 from four diverse Australian primary schools. The major purpose of this research was to uncover the main research question for this study:
· How do kids negotiate intercultural subjectivities over time?
Contribution
The findings reveal how interculturality and subjectivities are shaped by intercultural experiences and negotiated simultaneously in informal spaces that are not often explored in educational research. Conclusions will enrich future theorisation regarding subjectivities of primary school-aged kids 9–12, interculturality and everyday spaces of childhood.
Significance
The outputs of the PhD study include numerous publications and a research project with the VCAA and DET, informing curriculum and pedagogy in Victoria.
