Research statementResearch Background
The music video clip is no longer just a marketing tool for major record companies, but has been recognised as an important artistic form within itself. It is now viewed as a succinct way to articulate creative ideas and experiment with new forms of storytelling.
Ultrakeef was an experiment that consisted of recording a new musical performance while reimagining and recreating another musical performance of The Rolling Stones 1974 music clip “It’s only rock n roll”. Our aim was to capture the spirit of the 43 year old original clip within these constraints: digital cameras instead of film cameras; low budget props (ie a tent and balloons instead of a motorised parachute and soap suds; and a different musical piece that was referencing the clip.
The value of this work is attested to by the number of times this clip has been played on ABCTV‘s premier music clip program RAGE, and at time of writing, the clip has had over 5000 views on Youtube. The clip has also been shared extensively on online platforms such as Twitter and FB, and has been discussed in many web reviews and articles about the band (Dave Graney and the Mistly).
