This document contains written submissions to the Joint Parliamentary Committee on Human Rights, written in a personal capacity.
Contribution
The author's submissions focus on:
(1) the scope and effectiveness of Australia’s 2010 Human Rights Framework;
(2) whether the Australian Parliament should enact a federal Human Rights Act, and if so, what elements it should include
(3) whether existing mechanisms to protect human rights in the federal context are adequate and if improvements should be made; and
(4) the effectiveness of existing Human Rights Acts in protecting human rights in the Australian Capital Territory, Victoria and Queensland, including relevant caselaw.
Significance
The author contributes to the national conversation on a proposal for an Australian Human Rights Act.
