Background
This document contains written submissions to the Select Committee on Adopting Artificial Intelligence (AI) on behalf of the Deakin Law School.
Contribution
The authors' submissions focus on:
(1) Recent trends and opportunities in the development and adoption of AI technologies in Australia and overseas, in particular regarding generative AI;
(2) Risks and harms arising from the adoption of AI technologies, including bias, discrimination and error; and
(3) Emerging international approaches to mitigating AI risks, including two human rights case studies.
Significance
The authors contribute to the national conversation around the opportunities and impacts for Australia arising out of the uptake of artificial intelligence technologies in Australia.
