Research statement

Background The aim was to improve awareness among LGBTIQA+ individuals from multicultural multifaith (MCMF) backgrounds of their rights and options and create strategies of equity and inclusion among palliative care service providers. This report provides an overview of the project design and outcomes, research findings and recommendations. The available literature identifies a major absence in defining, determining and discussing palliative care in relation to intersectionality and the identities and experiences of MCMF LGBTIQA+ individuals. This report is the first of its kind in Australia, which establishes a baseline for much needed further research. Contribution This work produces new knowledge, and challenges conventions and reconceptualises practice around palliative care in regard to the intersections of LGBTIQ+, faith and ethnicity. Significance This work is the first in Australia and one of the very few internationally.
