Notes
The CASCADE-Net seminar series aim to navigate and negotiate challenges and opportunities for research and practice in how Civil Society prepares for extreme weather risk, and recovers from actual events in ways that increase resilience. Relevant questions explored in Seminar 8 include: How to integrate co-creative methods/resources and science to build a more resilient society; How to combine traditional forms of communication with various creative tools to develop practices with Civil Societies for resilience.
Research statement
Research Background
In December 2019, Prof Michael Wilson, Storytelling Academy, Loughborough University invited Le Rossignol to speak at Cascade-Net Seminar 8 as a result of both a detailed knowledge of my digital storyworld publications, and my outline of the digital Regional Arts Park being developed for Central Goldfields (involving Deakin University, 4 central Victorian shires, federal government funding and JumpLeads NFP). This seminar engages an international audience in the digital storyworld linked to creative communities and resilience.
Research Contribution
The Cascade-Net (Civil Agency Society and Climate ADaption to weather Extremes) seminar was a 25 minute zoom presentation focused on aspects of co-creative methods/resources for developing a resilient society. This presentation was followed by a question and answer session.
Research Significance
The audience for this presentation was interdisciplinary, transcisciplinary and inter-professional, with representation from Civil Society and non-academic organisations (NGOs, community groups, local government), both nationally and internationally.
CASCADE-Net seminars have been hosted by universities of West of England, Sheffield, Dundee, South Wales, Loughborough (see https://www.cascade-net.com).
The digital storytelling tool related to theme 3: Achieving Civil Society innovations in managing extreme weather events and risk.
The presentation was recorded for the website with convenor request to include the PPT presentation ‘rich materials’ for ongoing discussions and follow up.
