Research statement

Background A community collective whose work explored Haraway’s ‘speculative fabulation’ as a provocation to explore impossible worlds. This exhibition encapsulates a range of artforms, recorded and live allied around the Batna's motion to Haraway's theme of 'speculative fabulations'. Batna, leads this collective and explores specific site interventions including, islands in Port Phillip Bay and jetty's and piers in Queenscliffe. This exhibition was the result of converging on Haraway and considering the construction of an artificial occupation at the gallery site. Contribution Artwork included in this exhibition included video, site specific installation. sculpture, typography and performance. The work challenges the conventions of the seamless gallery experience through the integration of public performance in the space. This resulted in a creating a new world inside the gallery and a live performance of the work. Significance Enabled through a City of Greater Geelong funding grant, this exhibition draws together theorists and practitioners from across Victoria to creatively explore the 'Speculative fabulations'
