Background: This NTRO sits with/in the overarching terrain of contemporary art, public art and, more specifically, the fields of socially engaged art and post-human pedagogy. This was a site responsive work situated in the City of Greater Geelong for a public event conducted in local streets and laneways. The brief was to create an illuminated, interactive platform that would elicit imaginative and creative public encounters. Contribution: Citizens were invited to intervene in the arrangement of the site, moving elements and objects as they reflected on the shifting nature of their rapidly changing city. Different configurations were arranged and re-formed as the work unfolded in response to ideas and re-imaginings of Geelong as a creative city. Citizens were also invited to select, and curate donated objects no longer loved, needed or used, adhering to rules of engagement which involved different patterns of movement and encounter. Object stories were catalyzed prompting the sharing of rich social connections about shared histories, memories and anecdotes of relevance to Geelong. Others took time out to playfully engage with and intervene in the re/organization or placement of key elements and objects. This activation was purposefully designed to be inclusive and accessible to all citizens so as to elicit diverse social relations and shared public experiences amidst an urban environment navigating significant uncertainty, transition and urban renewal. Significance: This project was conducted at a public event which registered very high levels of attendance. This platform was made possible due to the successful award of one of five larger grants offered for activations at this event. It was widely publicized in the broader Geelong region and was also featured on the public website for Geelong After Dark and other public websites and platforms.Recognition, awards & prizes
