This exhibition included 22 paintings. They were all expressionist, surreal paintings based on my experience of being a new Australian but reflecting at the same time on my other ‘home places’. These represent arts practice based research exploring identity and place.

Notes

Solo exhibition at The George Gallery, October 1998. Included work ‘Three Graces’: this artwork is inspired by Boticelli’s Three Graces but is also metaphoric of my life journey with my two sisters. The landscape, reptiles, birds, mammals of Australia were very new to me at this time, and through this show, I explored surreal compositions of these elements and subjects. A strong theme in this work is danger and safety, inspired by the saying that the safest place to touch a crocodile is on its nose.
