Research statement

'The Museum of There, not there' was a major installation across all gallery spaces of a leading Melbourne art gallery: Station. The collection-based artwork installation rethought how objects might be made to hold and express ideas differently, thus challenging museum and collection practices and proposing the new idea that things might be rethought by applying collection constraints that repurposed things, giving them new and unexpected meanings. Pound positions the collection as a medium, asking us to re-examine and rethink objects that had become set in their ways. The exhibition of hundreds of objects under a single collection constraint pressed visitors to rethink objects that we had come to think of in certain defined ways. Positioning the collection as a medium this Non traditional research generates new concepts, methodologies, inventions and understandings that have implications for collection and curation practices as well for creative arts installation and display practices.
