A history of Australian social work practice research

This article documents the place of practice research in Australian social work from 1929 to the present by examining practice research publications as well as the professional discourse concerning the place of research in social work generally. It is conduded that practice research has historically occupied a marginal place in Australian social work but that this has been changing rapidly in the 1990s.
