This article invites us to consider how we as educators play a role in constructing students in particular ways that are often at odds with other influences in their lives. Amanda Keddie paints a rich picture of a young boy, ‘Adam’, whose lived experience requires that he manages the conflicting discourses of being a boy and being a student.
