Alternative methods for the MnO2 oxidation of codeine methyl ether to thebaine utilizing ionic liquids
journal contribution
posted on 2001-09-01, 00:00 authored by R Singer, Peter ScammellsThe MnO2 oxidation of codeine methyl ether, CME, to thebaine has been accomplished via the use of the ionic liquid 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate, bmimBF4. The ionic liquid has been used to remove or extract excess MnO2 and associated impurities from the reaction mixture to afford thebaine in 36 to >95% yield. © 2001 Elsevier Science Ltd.
