Australian autobiographies of childhood: beginning and myth

journal contribution
posted on 1995-09-01, 00:00 authored by David MccooeyDavid Mccooey
For the literary critic, autobiographies of childhood are the most appealing. This is because they are obviously reliant on an act of imagination in the narration of memory; and the protagonist is concerned with himself or herself, and not with other people and their stories. As a question of degree this is true; however, it is not an absolute distinction. There are factors which determine autobiographies of childhood as being more than just eccentric or wholly individual.
