Metallothioneins(MT) are ubiquitously distributed in animal and plant kingdoms. They are cysteine-rich proteins that specifically bind heavy metal ions, such as cadmium, zinc, mercury and copper. The high expression of the MT gene could be induced by heavy metals in vitro and in vivo. The purpose of this study is to clone the bovine MT gene in order to have a homologous MT promoter for the experiments of the transgenic bovine. In this note, we report the cloning and organization of a bovine MT gene cluster.
