The article focuses on the achievement of the goals of democracy, equity, justice and respect in schools for which the teachers can play a significant role. It discusses the socially just pedagogies that promote intellectual commitment, connect to students and occur in socially supportive environments, value and work with difference. It also echoes the need for the teachers to enable them and recognise the political nature of teaching and the importance of connecting pedagogy to social change.
