Breastfeeding has well recognised maternal, infant and public health benefits (Australian Institute of Health and Welfare, 2010). The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends exclusive breastfeeding (only breast milk and medicines) for infants to six months of age, and the continuation of breastfeeding for at least two years together with complementary foods (WHO, 2002).
