PVP stabilized gold nanoparticles show excellent catalytic activity for controlled and complete aerial oxidation of hydroxybenzylalcohols to hydroxybenzaldehydes. Uncapped gold nanoparticles are ferromagnetic in nature at room temperature. © 2011 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
