This brief details the recent ‘interim government response’ to the March 2012 Victorian Law Reform Committee (‘LRC’) Report on its two-year inquiry into access by donor-conceived people to information about their donors. It questions the stated grounds upon which the Victorian government delayed a final response — by its having called for six months more research to be conducted on donors — and raises concern that the recognition of a need to balance the interests of all parties has been lost. It calls for a decision by government, rather than further delay, and argues that the LRC’s recommendations were soundly based upon evidence presented to it over the course of its inquiry.
