The author examines the role of poetry as biography, such as those of R.S. Thomas on 'Kierkegaard' and Fay Zwicky on 'Emily Dickinson'. He considers biographical poems are inadequate as both history and poems, as they tend to be self-reflections of the poets writing the biographical poems.
