Some 30 species of mangrove were examined in estuaries and rivers between Cairns and Princess Charlotte Bay. All were growing vigorously except Avicennia marina which were dying in a number of places. Root samples were taken from several areas, one of which yielded an isolate identified as Phytophthora nicotianae. -B.Walls
