Ball milling of graphite powder at room temperature resulted in the formation of disordered and nanoporous carbon powder. Agglomeration of the nanosized and disordered layers under ball impacts formed the micropores. Transformations from hexagonal to turbostratic, and to amorphous phase were observed.
