This paper is a part of a broader PhD study, which investigates ways to support the use of parametric design in architecture by re-using design knowledge. It outlines the available literature written about computer-aided design in architecture, parametric design and textual and visual programming languages. This paper also discusses the opportunities that the parametric modelling systems offer to designers and architects, as well as barriers and downfalls.
