We still cannot understand why so many of the causes and consequences are treated as anti-social or ‘criminal’ acts. Surely, in our ‘fair go’ community, Australia should understand that homelessness is a problem that requires solutions like housing and supports, rather than a criminal justice response. However, the fact remains that people experiencing homelessness are bound to come into contact with the police, as police exercise the state’s efforts to control public spaces, and increasingly private spaces.
