A freestanding conducting polymer plate with one side forming a Schottky contact and the other forming an Ohmic contact with two different metals can generate a DC voltage with a large output current density upon mechanical deformation, as reported by T. Lin and co-workers on page 1461. This novel concept for generating DC electricity can be applied to develop various devices for energy harvesting.
