Propriedades físicas de compósitos cimento-madeira com serragem de Pinus elliottii tratada

This research aims to investigate the behavior of cement-wood mortar composites, in which 10 or 20% of sand,
in mass, was partially replaced by the same volume of Pinus elliottii sawdust. Aiming to improve the interaction between cement
and wood, replacements of sawdust, in natura, boiled, or coated with tetraethyl orthosilicate were used. Physical tests were
performed aiming to identify changes on the specific gravity (bulk, bulk saturated surface dry, effective and apparent), void
ratio, water absorption and moisture content of the cement-wood composites. The percentage of sawdust influenced the values
of specific gravity and moisture content of the composites. Treatments applied in the sawdust before the molding process did
not change the physical properties. However, the choice of a replacement percentage or a specific previous treatment depends
not only on the mechanical and physical properties of the composite but also on its application in practical situations and
exposure conditions.
