Revelry and relief

In marking the end of The Great War in Australia in November 1918,
jubilant crowds took over the streets. A closer look at responses to
the Armistice suggests, however, that the crowds were. expressing
relief from years of anxiety, fear and longing that finally promised to
come to an end.
