Chinese Naval Strategy in the 21st Century is an important study that moves towards filling a crucial gap in the English-language literature on the implications of the rise of China. Namely, the book by two scholars at the US Naval War College brings to light the existence of a remarkably open debate within China on the future direction of Chinese maritime and naval strategy, in the process providing a level of in-depth coverage of Chinese views and debates on its own geo-political circumstances and options that has thus far been too often lacking in the English-language public domain literature.
