The surface properties of (TiB + TiC)/Ti-6Al-4V before and after shot peening (SP), have been investigated. The results indicate that the increased reinforcements and SP intensities enhance the surface roughness after SP. Both compressive residual stresses (CRS) and hardness increase with the increase of SP intensity, which is mainly due to the plastic deformation and high dislocation density in the near surface layer. Moreover, the reinforcement particles can act as the block sources during dislocation movements. After an appropriate SP treatment, the increased CRS and hardness are beneficial to industrial applications.
