The use of matrix modifiers for the determination of boron by graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometry has been studied and applied to boron determination in environmental samples by graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometry-slurry atomization. The elimination of memory effects by employing the cleaning agents CH3OH H2SO4 (4 + 1 v v) and NaF (1%, m v), and a separate cleaning cycle, has been investigated, and found to be effective when using totally pyrolytic tubes. Boron was successfully determined in plant samples at the microgram per gram level. © 1991.
