Much like wandering, Practice-Led Research (PLR) involves a practice of indirection. PLR differs from wandering, however, to the extent that, as a research methodology, it supplements its use of indirect methods with methods of direction. My article takes wandering and hiking as metaphors for the production of several artworks that I have made, individually and collaboratively over many years, within a PLR ethos. My aim is to add to knowledge about PLR as a methodology that combines the direct approach of hiking with the indirect approach of wandering. The artworks discussed are the short story 'Nhill', the spoken-word performance piece 'Nil', and the poem '36.3328 S, 141.6503 E, Or, Aristotle Comes to Nhill: An Australian Fantasy'.
