Research statement
Big Stories, Small Towns is a collaborative transmedia documentary project. The project generates stories with and by community members using mixed methods. Stories are then disseminated via a range of media.
The aim of this iteration of the project was to work with people in Coober Pedy, South Australia, to use both digital and public spaces to tell stories about the community. The research actively investigates the role media and arts can play in sharing stories to facilitate social and community development that has been envisioned by local people. The project also re-imagines the roles creative researchers can play, working within and connecting communities. The research explores methods by which creative researchers can actively support communities to organise, advocate for themselves using their stories.
