Notes

Digital Realm(2024) In an era where Augmented Reality (AR), Virtual Reality (VR), and 360-degree films are impacting our engagement with the digital realm, this work explores the potential of these technologies beyond the classroom, reaching out to a broader public audience. Cinque delves into how immersive media can introduce complex concepts related to privacy, surveillance, data security, and the ethical use of data, offering a rich, multi-perspective understanding of these critical issues. The work focuses on leveraging the immersive and interactive qualities of 360-degree films to foster a deeper comprehension of the socio-technological and environmental implications inherent in contemporary digital landscapes. By presenting these themes through engaging, experiential formats, Cinque provokes us to critically consider the ethical and ecological dimensions of our increasingly connected world. Cinque’s goal is not merely to afford educational outcomes, but to inspire a collective reflection on how we can navigate and shape the digital age in harmony with ecological principles, thus contributing to a more sustainable and just society.

Significance With 350 exhibitions and over 70,000 visitors in 2023, Melbourne Design Week, an initiative of the Victorian Government in collaboration with the NGV, is comparable in scale to other prominent design weeks such as Shanghai and Dubai, which hosted similar numbers of events and visitors. When compared to other global design events, MDW’s attendance is stronger than Paris Design Week, which had 60,000 visitors, and is on par with New York Design Week, which had 90,000 visitors. As part of a competitive process, Digital Realm was selected to be part of MDW 2024 and highlights aesthetic intersections between the ecosphere and digital Infrastructures.
