Research statement

The Digital Learning with @digitalzones blogsite critically and creatively examines a wide range of themes in the area of digital learning. With an emphasis on finding solutions to the problem of how to engage students in the digital age, this research generates and conveys new knowledge in accessible ways for practitioners and other stakeholders not only in Higher Education, but across the education sector more broadly. The significance of this research is also highlighted by the reflexive way in which I draw on practitioner perspectives and my own experiences to address the key issues of motivation, engagement, learning, and employability. The innovative and ever-evolving application of social media and gamification in educational contexts forms a key thread throughout the ongoing blog series, which integrates a range of podcasts (including a Digital Learning with @digitalzones series available on all major podcasting platforms), videos, and other media. The content developed contributes to the broader research problem and creative endeavour that underpins all my current work in the area of Communication: How can different audiences be engaged with in order to communicate ideas in the digital age?
