Background
This program presents work conducted by an interdisciplinary team at Deakin, working across Philosophy, History, and Sociology in a unique collaboration to investigate whether and in what ways Covid-19 pandemic measures altered people's perception of time. This project uses a set of overlapping disciplinary techniques to articulate and explain the effects of public health measures on an often-overlooked aspect of experience and thus wellbeing.
Contribution
The program makes two main research contributions. Firstly, it presents, in an public-facing accessible format, striking findings on how public health measures impact on our sense of time, and explores the practical significance of this.
Secondly, the program goes beyond the original research papers by also discussing methodological questions about involving philosophy in interdisciplinary work. The program is thus both an output of the research project and a meta-level exploration and assessment of the opportunities and limitations for this sort of cross-disciplinary work on time experience.
Significance
The program was accepted for and broadcast on ABC Radio National’s The Philosopher’s Zone, the premier national media outlet for philosophical content and a leading outlet globally for this sort of material.
