Trio is a performance/art research project that examines how it might be possible to develop/establish a dialogue with a previously unknown person within a public context. Consisting of three bespoke inflatable structures, this work for three performers has been performed across a number of different contexts and locations with a view to investigating how public art and specifically temporary performative practices might be utilised to reconfigure social interaction and exchange within a public setting.
For this iteration, the work was performed in Delhi India as part of the Indian Street Art Festival and this specific context shifted the potential activation and meaning of the work in key ways. Working in a disadvantaged community, the work was reconfigured to allow the participants to engage via a translator and the specific locations (a public park and the Indian Art Fair among others) were chosen to emphasise the latent sense of play in the work.
Performed across five different locations, this iteration sought to test the role of location in the effectiveness of building encounters and how specific places (parks, streets, etc) may or may not increase engagement.
Indian Street Art Festival is a leading international programme for public art featuring artists from around the world. The work was also performed in conjunction with the India Art Fair.
