Research statement

Background This report contributes to the current policy and industry discussions on the design and delivery of an inclusive workforce development strategy for the Australian screen industries as an increasingly embedded and important contributor to the global screen production industry. Contribution The report builds upon and extends the existing body of both academic and industry research on workforce development in the Australian screen industry. The analysis is drawn from desk-based research of recent existing research and reports, relevant academic literature, and 567 survey responses from a 2021 survey of screen industry professionals commissioned by the Australian Film, Television and Radio school in 2021. Significance This report conceptualises and analyses five core dimensions of the Australian screen industry skills ecosystem: 1. Project-based work and employment 2.Formal and informal training 3. Networked career and labour markets 4.Quality of work 5. Policy environment
