engResearch statement
This reported focused on the risk factors for the development of gambling problems in children who have a family member with a gambling problem. The aims were to (1) review the literature, (2) develop an appropriate methodology to analyse the risk and contribution to the development of problem gambling in children and (3) provide guidelines for policy makers for intervention strategies targeted at children. The literature review findings included that there is substantial evidence of moderate risk associated with parental gambling problems. The analysis of risk included four studies including community samples and help seeking individuals. Findings included that 7.3% to 10.0% of participants reported they were raised in families with a problem gambling family member. The guidelines outline primary, secondary and tertiary prevention strategies.Publication classification
