Designing library learning space: an evaluation of the student experience
report
posted on 2017-02-01, 00:00 authored by Alexia Maddox, Bernadette Lingham, Colin BatesThis paper presents the methodology for a post-occupancy evaluation of how Deakin University Library space supports student learning goals. The case study provides a critical discussion of the mixed-methods research approach that included ethnographic data collection, an interactive exhibition of student experiences, and an observational survey of library space use. A key contribution of the paper is the organizational value of, and resourcing considerations for, the methods used. We anticipate our approach and findings will be of relevance to academic libraries and their universities to assist informed decision making on evaluation methods, as well as organizational commitments for post-occupancy space evaluation designed to deliver student-centered learning outcomes.
