The report arises from the ‘Transition and Transformation Working Conference, held on the 29th
November 2016 at Federation University, Gippsland. Around 55 people attended, drawn from all
major sectors in the region, state representatives and officials, as well as guests: Professor Karel
Williams, University of Manchester, Professor Wayne Lewchuk, McMaster University, Mr Paul Ford,
Chair Gippsland Agribusiness), Ms Denise Richardson (Australian Paper). Mr Todd Williams, CEO,
Hunter Regional Development Australia and Professor Bruce Wilson, RMIT University.
The conference and the preparation of the report were funded by Regional Development Victoria.
The authors would like to thank the Social Planning and Research Council of Hamilton, Ontario,
