Research statement
Background
The Australian Government commissioned an independent evaluation of the Eating Disorders Medicare Benefits Scheme (ED MBS) to assess service usage, outcomes, and barriers. Conducted by a multidisciplinary academic consortium, the evaluation provides evidence-based insights into the Scheme's implementation and effectiveness.
Contribution
Contributed as a research fellow to Study 7 of the evaluation, a qualitative inquiry involving interviews with lived experience individuals, carers, and healthcare professionals. Supported data collection, thematic analysis, and writing of Study 7 findings within the broader evaluation.
Significance
The evaluation informs national policy on Medicare-funded eating disorder treatments. Study 7 specifically elevated underrepresented voices, revealing systemic gaps and recommendations to enhance person-centred care. The report will guide future revisions of the ED MBS initiative.
