Research statement
There are no definitive studies that precisely quantify the prevalence of online gambling in Australia. Furthermore, there has been minimal research in Australia on the prevalence of problem gambling among online gamblers and that which is available is inconclusive. The current report provides an overview of the Gambling Act 2001. In particular, the report includes a review of the growth of online gambling, development of new technologies, adequacy of existing provisions, adequacy of existing provisions, regulation and harm minimisation strategies. The multi source method included a literature search, development of online gambling profile, international research, consultation of 20 consumers and three industry stakeholders.
