The gambling industry in Tasmania has been evaluated in a series of impact studies since 2008. The current volume, the Second Social and Economic Impact Study of Gambling in Tasmania provides findings from 2011. This report was created in partnership by ACIL Allen Consulting, The Problem Gambling Research Centre (PGRTC) and the Social Research Centre (SRC) by the Tasmanian Department of Treasury and Finance. The study comprises of three volumes. Volume 1 (this report) provides; background on policy and regulatory environments, analysis of characteristics of gambling support service clients, key trends in gambling statistics, and an analysis of the contribution of to Tasmania's economy. The volume also provides an analysis on the social benefits and costs of gambling in Tasmania. Findings from the characteristics of support service clients included that those who access support are as likely to be female and male, likely to be older and married.Publication classification
