The gambling industry in Tasmania has been evaluated in a series of impact studies since 2008. The current volume, the Second Social and Economic Impact Study of Gambling in Tasmania provides findings from 2011. This report was created in partnership by ACIL Allen Consulting, The Problem Gambling Research Centre (PGRTC) and the Social Research Centre (SRC) by the Tasmanian Department of Treasury and Finance. The study comprises of three volumes. Volume 3 (this report) evaluates the appropriateness and effectiveness of harm minimisation measures in Tasmania. A multi-method approach was taken, including a literature review, stakeholder consultation, analysis of Computer Assisted Telephone Interviewing (CATI) and analysis of themes from structured group interviews. Key findings from the overall evaluation of harm minimisation measures were very positive. Measures were found to be evidence based, sensitive to context and part of a comprehensive, diverse, flexible and innovative strategy. Detailed methodology for the ongoing evaluation of harm in Tasmania is provided.Publication classification
