A cross-sector online questionnaire was conducted with 138 managers at various levels from the executive to senior and middle managers in data and analytics. Eight semi-interviews and a workshop to discuss findings were also undertaken. All the interview and workshop participants were executive-level and senior Information and Technology leaders.
This report presents the findings of the research project aimed to gain an understanding of the current maturity state of data analytics and its perceived business value in Australian organisations.

Contribution
This report presents the findings of the research project aimed to gain an understanding of the current maturity state of data analytics and its perceived business value in Australian organisations. Secondly, data and analytics were reported to deliver business value and enable business performance. Thirdly, the COVID-19 pandemic reinforced the role of data and analytics for business survivability and performance. Finally, a value-driven maturity journey, inclusive data and analytics culture and a balanced data governance approach were found to be key elements in leveraging data and analytics for business gains.
Significance
The study contributes to the literature in business value of data analytics and informs future research into data analytic capability building.
