Background
Significant long-term social, environmental and economic benefits come from making better informed decisions in the design and construction of new homes. Sustainable MOTIIVES is a novel collaborative project using the expertise of a variety of expert stakeholders, grounded in literature and case studies of two sustainable homes. The outputs from this research will benefit the industry & community and is transferable to any built environment across the country. This project is funded by climate change partnership grant of the City of Greater Geelong and is a collaboration between Deakin University and Geelong Sustainability, a not-for-profit organisation.
Contribution
Development of an innovative tool kit that homeowners and occupants can use to help understand the design and sustainability of their home and learn how to make improvements. A research report to develop a strategy for sustainable homes has been submitted to the local council.
Significance
Plain language tools have been proven to be useful in disseminating complex concepts and information to communities, traditionally using printed media and websites, replaced by series of videos in this innovative project. This systematic series of plain language videos collate existing academic and theoretical concepts with newly gathered information including stakeholder expertise, local laws, trades and goods availability. Our research output is translational in that it brings to life difficult concepts in a practical format for the average stakeholder.
