The gambling industry in Tasmania has been evaluated in a series of impact studies since 2008. The current volume, the Third Social and Economic Impact Study of Gambling in Tasmania provides findings from 2015. This report was created in partnership by ACIL Allen Consulting, The Problem Gambling Research Centre (PGRTC) and the Social Research Centre (SRC) by the Tasmanian Department of Treasury and Finance. The study comprises of three volumes. Volume 1 (this report) provides an overview of the gambling industry trends and impacts. Part 1 focuses on the gambling industry and operating environment, Part 2 focuses on the social impacts of gambling in Tasmania and Part 3 focuses on the economic impacts of gambling in Tasmania. Findings for Part 1 included Tasmania’s gambling industry is dominated by three major suppliers; the federal group, TOTE Tasmania and Betfair. Findings for Part 2 included between 2011 and 2013 the proportion of moderate risk or problem gambler was steady at 2.4%. Part 3 employed economic modelling, results are described according to modelling of each scenario.Publication classification
