Activity accumulation patterns and cardiometabolic health in children and adolescents

thesis
posted on 2020-08-27, 00:00 authored by Simone J.J.M. Verswijveren
This thesis has provided a more detailed understanding of youth activity accumulation patterns and associations with cardiometabolic risk factors. It has also made important methodological contributions relating to: 1) the assessment of activity accumulations patterns, especially with regards to defining appropriate bout durations, and; 2) the use of novel statistical approaches to assess associations between activity accumulation patterns and cardiometabolic health in youth. This thesis also found initial evidence to suggest that sporadic activity accumulation patterns are beneficially associated with cardiometabolic health, in comparison to continuous activity accumulation patterns.
