Against the grain: Exploring the sustainability of Australia's traditional rural mastheads

This thesis explores local news sustainability in Australia by examining how some mastheads in rural and regional areas continue to successfully operate at a time when dozens of others have folded. It centres on five local news outlets that have either increased or maintained their paying audience, and includes digital mapping and semi-structured interviews as data gathering methods.
