This study explores relationships among people, plants, and prisons throughout California. It explores horticultural elements of historical prison landscapes and sheds light on contemporary prison garden operations. The findings highlight the unique lens that gardens offer in understanding public carceral heritage sites and contemporary prison politics alike.
